Flames Of War

What is left of his fragile mind
Is turning now into one of a kind
Flames of war burning on
And he is forever alone

Again he stands at the enemy lines
Taking aim, wasting all of their kind
Flames of war raging on
Crimson marks now staining the floor

And there he is now standing
Looking down the barrel of a gun
And there he is now standing
Nowhere to hide and nowhere to run

But with a moment of clarity
He drifts back from his nightmares
And in the moment of sanity
The veil is lifted from his face

The bloody truth right in front of him now
Innocents are lying on the ground
Flames of War are now gone
Alone he faces what cannot be undone

No return
Is he free from it all at last?
Will the nightmares go away?
Can it take away the pain?
They are gone
His duty is finally done
Can he find the peace of mind?
As he is the last of his kind
Broken down
He will drown
In a sea of blood
Broken down

He can feel the darkness around him
Growing stronger now with every breath
And the light in his eyes is getting dim
And the air is filled with smell of death
Distant veil of sirens closing in
Screams of pain are slowly dying out
Nothing left to hold and cherish within
In the night the silence is so loud

But with a moment of clarity
He drifts back from his nightmares
And in the moment of sanity
The veil is lifted from his face

Again he stands at the enemy lines
Raising gun now one final time
Flames of war raging on
Deep inside his fragile mind

And there he is now standing
Looking down the barrel of a gun
And there he is now standing
Nowhere to hide and nowhere to run

No return
Is he free from it all at last?
Will the nightmares go away?
Can it take away the pain?
They are gone
His duty is finally done
Can he find the peace of mind?
As he is the last of his kind
Broken down
He will drown
In a sea of blood
Broken down
